Fall Favorites in San Diego
Can you feel it? The subtle dip in temperatures. The shift in lighting. The mood that comes with this time of year, even when our weather doesn’t necessarily accommodate that mood.
Fall is nearly here! And yes, it is safe to admit that Fall isn’t really a “thing” we experience in San Diego. But that doesn’t stop the pumpkin flavored everything from entering our periphery, or the trend towards more layers that these barely cooler temps finally allow. And it doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy this new season, even if we aren’t blessed with the extravagant changing of leaves other areas might be accustomed to.
Okay, so you probably won’t notice much of fall while strolling on the beach. But you can always drive out to Julian for some apple picking and cider (don’t forget the pie!) And those changing leaves (and truly crisper temps) can always be found by heading just a few hours in the right direction. Because let’s face it; the rest of the country is already starting to rejoice in this shift in seasons, so we might as well be celebrating it too!
The kids are in school and the beach is probably still beckoning you. But there are plenty of ideas online for ushering forth fall, even when a peek outside doesn’t necessarily indicate it’s here. Perhaps you want to change things up in the kitchen, and start whipping up a few traditionally fall recipes. Or maybe you want to spend a weekend putting together some fall crafts with the kids? Next month will bring pumpkins to carve, and those trips out of town to enjoy a true fall are good for everyone.
One of the big celebratory things I like to do in fall is announce fall portrait dates. Now is the best possible time of year to take those family pictures you will use for your holiday cards in just a few months. After all, if you wait much longer—it will be too late. But perhaps even more importantly, fall is just a good time to take pictures. Think about it. Getting your family portraits done in July will likely have you outside in the heat, fighting sweat and dressing down. Waiting until fall means you can embrace those layers that often add more texture to your pictures, and the shift in lighting can be great for the appearance of your complexion. If you want to get in on this action, the dates I have available are (view post). We can always design a session to meet your needs, creating the images you’ll be proud to send out to your friends and family come December.
Just remember that it doesn’t have to look like fall outside for us to reap the benefits fall has to offer. So order that pumpkin spice latte, throw on a scarf, and slice yourself a piece of homemade apple pie. Heck, throw on a scoop of vanilla ice cream for good measure! Fall is here, and you deserve to celebrate!
