I get this all the time… why do you shoot weddings? Mostly from other photographers who would never dream of “lowering” themselves to do weddings. What they don’t know however, is that for a photographer that loves people, their interactions, emotions, timing, comedy… weddings are a goldmine!
I can’t really think of many other events that have such a great level of thought to detail both in appearance and coordination. Weddings provide a familiar, homey framework for guests and family to relax and enjoy themselves within. Nobody is worried about where they are supposed to be, who they should talk to or taking care of business. No, everyone is just there to crack silly jokes, kiss the bride and relax.
When people talk with friends in a small group, or even just one on one there isn’t a lot of small talk. Instead old jokes and “do you remembers” come up… there are also lots of hugs. For nearly every image I take I am waiting for that split second the punchline hits or the hug just starts. To early or too late and the moment would be missed, but NAIL it and it is golden.
